GroceryScan — Privacy Policy

MoltenPixelStudio ("we", "our", "us") built GroceryScan as a free application. This page informs you about our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information when using GroceryScan.
TL;DR — GroceryScan does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. Everything you do in the app stays on your device.
What data is stored
All data you create in GroceryScan is stored locally on your device only:
- Grocery lists and items
- Prices, quantities, categories
- Photos of products you scan
- Shopping history
- Budget settings
- App preferences (language, currency, etc.)
This data is never uploaded to any server. It is never sent to us, to MoltenPixelStudio, or to any third party.
Permissions we request
- Camera — Used only when you tap "Scan" or "Barcode" to let you take a photo of a product or receipt. Photos are processed locally on your device using Google ML Kit (on-device OCR) and Open Food Facts lookup (for barcodes only). Photos are stored locally with your grocery list and never uploaded anywhere.
- Motion sensors (accelerometer) — Used only to detect when your phone is steady before capture. No motion data is stored or transmitted.
Third-party services
- Open Food Facts API — When you scan a barcode, the barcode number (a public product identifier, not personal data) is sent to world.openfoodfacts.org to look up the product name. No personal information is transmitted.
- Google ML Kit — The text recognition happens entirely on your device. No data leaves your phone.
- Expo Application Services (EAS) — Anonymous usage analytics (launch counts, device OS version, crash reports) may be sent to Expo to help us improve the app. No personal data or app content is included. See Expo's privacy policy.
Data sharing
We do not sell, trade, or transfer your data to outside parties. Since all data is stored locally on your device, we have no way to access it.
Deleting your data
You can delete all app data at any time:
- In the app: Settings → Clear All Data
- From device: Uninstall GroceryScan. All local data is removed with the app.
Children's privacy
GroceryScan does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Since we don't collect personal information from anyone, this isn't a concern, but we want to be explicit.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
